Amazon Is Unveiling An All-New, Second-Generation Dot That’s Priced At $49.99

Amazon’s connected speaker Echo Dot is now back in stock and at a lower price point of $49.99. The Alexa-powered device offers many of the same features that you will find in its larger counterpart, the Amazon Echo. Including access to the Amazon’s voice-based assistant who you can ask to do things like play music, read the news, check the weather, turn on your lights, set timers, use apps, and more.

Amazon has also built a new Echo Spatial Perception technology into the Dot. It is designed to detect multiple instances of the Echo or Dot in use in a home. So that not every device responds to voice recognition. It’ll detect exactly which device your voice is talking to. And Amazon is rolling it out to existing Dot and Echo devices.

The new Dot is sightly more compact and sleeker than the original. It has the Echo’s same array of 7 microphones and advanced noise cancelling technology that allow you to speak to Alexa from across the room, even when you’ve music playing. Amazon also says that the new Echo Dot features a more powerful speech processor, which delivers the improved far-field speech recognition accuracy.

The device connects via either Bluetooth or a 3.5 mm stereo cable to your entertainment sys, then allows you to use your voice to play music from Amazon Music, Prime Music, Pandora, iHeartRadio, Spotify, TuneIn and others.

The second-gen Dot is available for preorder today in black and white models, and it will start shipping on October 20th. And if you just want to blanket your home with Alexa, you can buy a 6 pack of Echo Dots, which will give you one free unit, or a 10-pack, which will come with two free Dots.
