Adidas just unveiled the UltraBOOST Uncaged Parley running shoe; the first mass-produced footwear created using Parley Ocean Plastic. The revolutionary footwear will launch this month, with 7,000 pairs available.
During the presentation of the footwear concept, both organizations Parley and Adidas showcased their innovative approach to building products that are environment-friendly and also promote sustainability. Last year, a 3-D printed prototype was made to influence the shoe industry to rethink their designs and help to stop ocean pollution from plastic waste. The shoes made from ocean waste demonstrates how the manufacturers like Adidas and organizations like Parley for the Oceans can work together to develop solutions that everyone can benefit from.
Adidas UltraBOOST Uncaged Parley running shoe Specs:
UltraBOOST Uncaged Parley is features a Primeknit upper made from a mix of Ocean PlasticTM, created from plastic waste retrieved by the Parley coastal interception and clean-up operations in the Maldives (95 percent), and recycled polyester (5 percent); with each pair reusing eleven plastic bottles. The shoes laces, heel cap base material, heel lining, heel webbing and the sock-liner cover are also made with the recycled materials. Its design is inspired by ocean waves, to reflect the shoe’s unique story also adidas and Parley’s commitment to end the cycle of pollution in the oceans.
Meanwhile, the midsole is all Adidas’ Boost technology. That is the same foamy material found on its Yeezys, NMD and UltraBoost, the flagship running sneaker. The company says that it had to develop the Uncaged Parley without compromising on performance, adding that the key was to keep every signature element of a running shoe. In simple words, if you happen to get lucky with a pair, wear it like you’d any other. Don’t let those yarn fibers stop you.
